  • California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) crew members remove burning roots and soak them with water as they continue to gain containment of the Big Creek Fire on July 31, 2015. The fire started on July 29, 2015, and is burning between Groveland and Yosemite National Park.<br />
<br />
CalFire officials said investigators on Thursday determined the cause of the Big Creek Fire to be “an escaped debris fire.” The person suspected of being responsible for the debris fire, identified as Lisa Ann Vilmur, 43, was arrested and booked for one count of recklessly causing a fire, a felony violation of Penal Code 452(c), Cal Fire officials said.

The fire was believed to have started at approximately 11:30 am on Thursday, September 4, 2014. The cause of the fire is unknown. By 4:00 pm, the fire had grown to approximately 100 acres, and though structures were threatened, none were believed to have been lost. Moccasin Point is located at Don Pedro Reservoir, east of Modesto, near the Sierra Foothill communities of Sonora and Groveland.

Two crew members from the Groveland Hotshots disperse wood straw during Rim Fire suppression repair in Jones Meadow, located along Cherry Lake Road/Forest Route 1N07 near Groveland, California. Approximately 30 crew members from Groveland Hotshots and U.S. Forest Service Crew 41 dispersed approximately 400 bales of wood straw and constructed fencing around the approximate 5-acre meadow. Jones Meadow was bulldozed during the Rim Fire to create a safety zone for firefighters. Because bulldozers impacted the natural habitat, crews are working to repair the area to the greatest extent possible.

A helicopter works its way back to collect water to drop on the Hunter Creek Fire, which is burning just west of downtown Reno, Nevada, on Thursday, June 22, 2017. According to a Truckee Meadows Fire representative, the cause of the fire is not known, but the point of origin is known. The blaze is estimated at 250 acres and is approximately 35% contained and is burning on U.S. Forest Service land. No structures have been damaged. One firefighter suffered a minor heat-related injury. At least eight agencies are battling the fire. Washoe County park and trail access is unavailable until investigation and operations are complete.

STEVEN FEOLA, of Long Barn, California, walks on a tree he fell along Cherry Lake Road near Groveland, California. FEOLA, who works for Scott Timber, is one of many tree fallers who have been contracted by Hetch Hetchy Water & Power to remove hazardous trees that were damaged during the Rim Fire. The fire started August 17, 2013, and burned approximately 402 square miles.

Mr. CHRIS TOMASOVICH shoulders his equipment while taking a break in logging operations in Tuolumne County where the Rim Fire burned. <br />
<br />
Mr. TOMASOVICH was killed on May 30, 2014, in a logging accident while working in an area burned out by the Rim Fire. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office reports that Mr. TOMASOVICH of Sonora was working for a private contractor near Cottonwood Road and Forest Road 1N84 when he was struck by a falling tree.

According to a Truckee Meadows Fire representative, the cause of the fire is not known, but the point of origin is known. The blaze is estimated at 250 acres and is approximately 35% contained. No structures have been damaged. One firefighter suffered a minor heat-related injury. At least eight agencies are battling the fire. Washoe County park and trail access is unavailable until investigation and operations are complete.
