  • California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) crew members remove burning roots and soak them with water as they continue to gain containment of the Big Creek Fire on July 31, 2015. The fire started on July 29, 2015, and is burning between Groveland and Yosemite National Park.<br />
<br />
CalFire officials said investigators on Thursday determined the cause of the Big Creek Fire to be “an escaped debris fire.” The person suspected of being responsible for the debris fire, identified as Lisa Ann Vilmur, 43, was arrested and booked for one count of recklessly causing a fire, a felony violation of Penal Code 452(c), Cal Fire officials said.

This Ford Tri-Motor NC9645, nicknamed The Tin Goose, has a wingspan of 77 feet 6 inches and was constructed in 1928. It was named the City of Wichita, and it was used to introduce the first coast-to-coast passenger air/rail service in the United States on July 7, 1929, and the development and inauguration of the first all air passenger service on October 25, 1930. The plane can carry up to 10 passengers.<br />
<br />
Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is a worldwide organization of aviation enthusiasts. EAA’s 185,000 members and 1,000 local chapters enjoy sharing their passion for flying, building and restoring aircraft. Pine Mountain Lake’s EAA Chapter 1337 is hosting the airline’s visit.

FEOLA, who works for Scott Timber, is one of many tree fallers who have been contracted by Hetch Hetchy Water & Power to remove hazardous trees that were damaged during the Rim Fire. A helicopter works its way back to collect water to drop on the Hunter Creek Fire, which is burning just west of downtown Reno, Nevada, on Thursday, June 22, 2017. According to a Truckee Meadows Fire representative, the cause of the fire is not known, but the point of origin is known. The blaze is estimated at 250 acres and is approximately 35% contained and is burning on U.S. Forest Service land. No structures have been damaged. One firefighter suffered a minor heat-related injury. At least eight agencies are battling the fire. Washoe County park and trail access is unavailable until investigation and operations are complete.
