Protesting coronavirus restrictions in California

A woman who wishes to be identified by her first name only, Anna, walks along N. Washington Street in Sonora, California, on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Anna joins approximately 75 peaceful protestors in the rural California community because “I’m opinionated, I’m human and I’m a small business owner.” She questions people making decisions about which businesses are essential.

A small business owner in Sonora, Cindy Zelinsky, unofficially organized the Tuolumne County protest in reaction to the government’s control of, and reaction to, the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tuolumne County has a population of approximately 55,000 people. To date, there have been four confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the county.
