Women's empowerment, Kandy, Sri Lanka

Wasantha Menike smiles while working at the Hela Bojun Hala cafe in the Kundasale suburb of Kandy, Sri Lanka.

Wasantha worked in Saudi Arabia for 10 years as a housemaid, providing the sole income for her family. She continues to be the family's sole provider, currently working at the café from 6:30 in the morning until approximately 1:00pm each week day. She has two children, ages 18 and 20.

From my personal project, "Woman" discovering women's empowerment in Sri Lanka created in and around Kandy, Sri Lanka.
