15 imagesTitus "Stretch" Gall founded Tower Tech, Inc., a mobile air traffic control tower company that works air traffic for Western U.S. wildfires. Tower Tech has four mobile towers that can be on site at a fire within 24 hours of a call. Each self-contained mobile unit houses a tower, radio and computer equipment, a kitchen, bathroom, sleeping quarters, satellite hookups and a generator. Tower Tech is also called to work special events such as South Lake Tahoe's celebrity golf tournament, air shows, etc. I successfully pitched this story to Reuters in Spring 2021. 13 imagesGender Diversity on the Fire Line. Women have a long history in the U.S. Forest Service, from the first all-woman wildland firefighting crew assembled in 1942 in California, to the first female smoke jumper in 1981. Women currently make up approximately 13% of the USFS work force. In August 2018, I accompanied some of the women and men fighting the Donnell Fire in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. A few of their stories were featured in an article in High Country News. https://www.hcn.org/articles/photos-gender-diversity-on-the-fire-line-california-donnell
